Inhaling a breath that did nothing to calm me, I blew it out and glanced one last time into the alley behind me.
Luminous was a secret club, generally members only, and wasn’t listed on public sites. Master Dylan had only told me about it after I’d reached out to him on KinkLife and we’d met for coffee last week.
I had longed for so many years to explore this side of me, and now that it was here...did I have the courage?
Yes.
I did.
Pushing my shoulders back, I turned the knob and opened the door. With my back straight, I entered Luminous and was immediately overcome by the sensuality of the small space in front of me, thick silver curtains separating me from what I assumed was the actual club. Sparkling white lights rimmed around the top edge of the walls and illuminated the space in a gentle way. Dark gray walls sparkled as if doused with glitter. It was dark but seductive at the same time.
“Can I help you?” A deep voice rumbled to my right. He stood behind a black counter with his arms crossed over his chest. His golden brown hair trimmed short on the sides and long on top was perfectly styled and brushed to the side. A small scar slashed through one side of both of his lips and his deep brown eyes penetrated right through me.
I fought against the nerves rolling through me like the largest of tidal waves.
“I’m here to see Master Dylan? He’s expecting me?”
The man glanced down before bringing his eyes back to me. “Haley?”
For a moment, I wished I had used an alias. Did I want people knowing who I really was? But this was about being honest with myself, not hiding anything. “Yes, sir.”
The man grinned, displaying a mouth full of bright white teeth. “Name’s Joe. No need to be formal with me.”
I was trying to be polite, but I took his correction with the slightest nod. “Thank you.”
He pressed a finger to his ear that had a small headpiece attached and rumbled. “Yep. She finally got the courage to come inside. She’s waiting for you.”
“Did you? Where did you? How?” I sputtered incoherently and snapped my head in the direction of the door I’d just entered.
“No need to be alarmed, Dylan monitors every inch of this place inside and out for the safety of everyone who enters. And if it makes you feel better, you did a lot better than most first-time visitors.”
Well, no. That didn’t make me feel better at all. Still, I sent him a shaky smile and muttered, “Thanks. I think.”
He walked around the bar and stood next to the curtains. They billowed gently back and forth from movement behind them. “Enjoy your evening, Haley. Master Dylan will meet you at the bar shortly.”
He pulled them back and gestured for me to enter. I drew my gaze off him and toward the open area in front of me. I hadn’t expected the inside of an old abandoned warehouse to be so luxurious. I expected something darker and red, something that screamed sin and sex. Everything was the opposite. Glittering, deep gray walls similar to the entry area. Dark woodwork, sleek and shiny from polish, grabbed my attention first. My gaze roamed everywhere as I stood just inside the space, unable to focus on one thing first. With large, teardrop chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, the lights reflecting and bouncing on the floors and walls, everything whispered fantasy and desire. As Master Dylan had explained previously, this was a meeting room, all the private and public rooms were on the second floor.
What he couldn’t have described was how the soft music created a pulse along the floor, seeming to heat the cavernous space from the floor to ceiling. It glided across my skin until my already small black dress was too tight on my skin, too restrictive. I shifted on my heels, my breath quickening.
Dozens of people sat at tables and at the bar and my eyes took them all in. Some in leather, some in jeans or suits. Women were dressed in lingerie-type outfits to full suits and floor-length, formal dresses. Anything went inside Luminous and that was the only thing that didn’t surprise me. This lifestyle was for anyone and everyone. Sex and desire weren’t only coupled with physical chemistry with another person, but a physical need to have carried out by another person—and it wasn’t always sex. Intercourse wasn’t even allowed inside the club, although that didn’t mean orgasms weren’t given. They could happen during the demonstrations, or in either of the public or private playrooms. Master Dylan had explained it was because many in the kink community didn’t necessarily need sex, they wanted play partners. Those two didn’t always go hand in hand. Taking sex off the table completely allowed everyone to be more comfortable, more willing to experiment and practice. Plus, it kept him free to guarantee that sex wasn’t sold on the premises in case anyone got the wrong idea about what happened inside his club.
But all that desire bubbled inside me as I took another step inside the room and toward the bar. Every step I took toward the sleek, rich-colored wood bar increased my anticipation. I scanned the room, noticing the flickering of lights, the subtle shifts in music, the whispered voices and quiet laughter. No one was paying attention to me.
I noticed everything and by the time I reached the bar, all of it made me crazy with need.
I needed more than a release.
I needed to be handled.
“Haley,” a man with a rough voice said from my left.
I turned in that direction and barely managed to withhold my gasp.
I had seen photos of Master Dylan online. We even met for coffee last week. In his element, he was even more stunning, more intimidating and more powerful. With his rich, caramel-colored skin and cropped black hair, his even blacker eyes seared my skin as his gaze quickly wandered down my body and back to my eyes.
“So thrilled you could come tonight,” he said, and immediately placed his hand on my shoulder, closing the space between us.
I looked away on instinct.
As someone who wanted to submit, even if I was untrained, it was still difficult to look him directly in the eye. His large body, his muscles obvious even in his black suit, and the deep timbre of his voice indicated he could wield power and control in many forms.
He wasn’t my Master, and he’d described his monogamous relationship with his current slave Gabby, so he would never be my Master, but that didn’t matter.
His deep-set black eyes seemed to bore into my soul while he watched me.
“Thank you for taking all this time.” I managed a shaky smile, feeling more settled as his hand drifted to my lower back. The touch wasn’t sensual, and a comforting sensation trilled down my back.
“Let’s get you a drink, we’ll sit and talk and when you’re ready, I’ll give you your tour. Sound okay?”
Oh, God. This was really happening. “Yes, sir.”
“Very good,” he replied. His clear approval of my response made me fight back a grin.
After he explained the club had a two-drink-limit rule and it was only allowed in the main meeting area, he ordered me a glass of champagne and then led me toward a booth near the middle of the room.
Men and women alike greeted Master Dylan as we walked by, either by word or a tip of their chin. Determining Doms from subs by the simple way they reacted to his presence was easier than I’d thought it would be. Women who were clearly subs dipped their chin away from him, almost shrinking from his presence while the dominant men and women straightened, growing stronger and larger.
The dichotomy was obvious, as well as alluring.
I understood how every submissive behaved. As if his inherent power made you want to kneel in front of him. I had to resist the urge to do the same.
That realization was all it took.
This was me. It was immediate and apparent as I let Master Dylan guide me into a booth. Instead of being intimidated by him, I acquiesced to him. My nerves began to dissipate as that knowledge settled inside me.

Something happened on the walk here,” he observed, pressing his glass of vodka neat to his full lips. “Felt something inside you shift. Want to explain?”
Amazing how he noticed it. Although with as knowledgeable and wise as he’d already shown himself to be, perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Sometimes, Master Dylan spoke to me in a way that showed he knew things about me even I hadn’t figured out.
I looked at my glass of champagne I held gingerly in the tips of my fingers. The liquid shook so I put the glass down and smoothed my shaking hands down the tops of my thighs.
He gave me moments to put my thoughts together but it didn’t take long before I was able to pull my eyes almost directly to his.
“I am this,” I said. Embarrassment heated my cheeks. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, I tried again. “The way everyone in here behaves, or responds...to you and others. I can’t explain it, but it made me think of Timothy. Through dating and our marriage, there was always a pit in my stomach, like a heavy rock had settled there, that I had to continue to push away.”
I took a sip from my glass. The bubbles tickled my throat and I blew out a breath. “I can feel your power, feel the way I instantly recognized a sub who shrunk from you. I feel connected.”
His look was one of approval and I smiled in return as a rush of pent-up tension fell from my lips and shoulders.
He leaned forward and rested his forearms on the table between us. With a slight tilt of his head, his eyes flickered to a mirror on the other side of the bar before coming back to me. “Do you have any questions for me? Or would you prefer to start with the tour?”
Jensen
None of this was supposed to be happening. Being back in this club, a place that at one time had been my second home, a place I left so long ago, shouldn’t have calmed me so much as soon as I arrived. It wasn’t supposed to feel like I’d stepped into myself when several Doms walked up and welcomed me. Joe’s playful punch to the shoulder wasn’t supposed to have meant so much.
Every breath I took, every acknowledging nod in recognition sent my way should have made me turn on my heels and walk right back out of the place I’d vowed never to enter again.
Yet I was still here, in Dylan’s office that looked more like a guest room in a five-star hotel than a workspace. At least, it did if you could ignore the spanking bench and sex chaise lounge sitting in one corner.
Just seeing the implements in his office made my mouth water and my blood pulse with need.
And all of that was before Haley entered.
Adrenaline buzzed in my veins as she walked through the crowd.
Dylan was right. She was perfect. Tall and willowy, long, chocolaty hair. When the overhead chandeliers shined on her just right, her hair sparkled and shimmered in a way that stole my breath. Her large, doe-like green eyes absorbed everything around her and the way her lips parted in surprise showed her obvious naivety to the lifestyle.
Dylan led her toward a table with his hand on her lower back, and my hands curled into fists, my biceps bunching beneath my tight, long-sleeve black shirt
Everyone in this place knew that showed possession.
He already had a slave.
Haley wasn’t his.
But she can’t be yours.
I wanted to take a bullet in the head just to make my conscience shut the fuck up.
As I watched Dylan guide her toward a table, she caught sight of another Master—Thomas. She instantly tipped her chin down, avoiding his eyes, all while her perfectly light cream skin turned a shade of pink right at the edges.
It undid me in the worst of ways. That one fucking look awoke the Dom deep inside me and it clawed to the surface, threatening to take control of my resolve to never live this again. To never train a sub again.
As she sat speaking with Dylan, her trembling fingers moved surely, her quivering smile stretched, and her confidence grew.
It shouldn’t have been Dylan answering her questions. It shouldn’t have been Dylan preparing to give her a tour of the playrooms. And it shouldn’t have been fucking Dylan who was allowed to rest his hand on hers, even as he flashed me a smirk he knew I could see.
In more than a decade of friendship, I had never wanted to punch him more.
It was all it took, and my decision was made.
I would have her.
I would tame her.
And once she was trained, I would hand her over to someone else who could give her permanence and stability.
Chapter Three
Haley
For not the first time since we’d been speaking, Master Dylan flashed a smirk toward the mirror on the far side of the wall. Since he didn’t seem vain and wanting to know how his hair looked, it unnerved me.
“Is there something I’ve done?” I asked, pulling my hand from beneath his and back into my lap.
“Pardon?” He gave me a half-grinning, half-confused look.
“The mirror. You keep looking at it.”
Master Dylan leaned back in the booth and picked up his glass of vodka. The ice cubes in the near-empty glass rattled as he watched me.
“You’ve done nothing wrong,” he said, his voice lowering to almost a purr.
And darn it...that affected me. Everything about this place did. As we spoke, as he asked me questions about my limits and what I was interested in, what I thought about most, my desire had only continued to increase. So much so, that every time I shifted my hips on the leather seat beneath me, the wetness inside my panties increased.
Several people had coupled off while we spoke and left the main room, heading for the stairs.
When I’d asked if he could give me the tour, he’d told me to wait.
Considering that was why I had come, his response disquieted me.
“In fact,” Master Dylan said, his head tilting toward that mirror. “That’s my office. Someone’s been watching us, someone I believe is perfect for you. I’ve been waiting for him to make his move, and it seems that my touching you has finally caused him to do just that.”
My head jerked back. “What?”
He leaned forward, his voice quiet but stern. “I have spoken with someone about you. The best Dom I know. He’s not currently training anyone, and he’s the perfect one to do so for you.”
“I thought I got to choose.” Confusion mixed with holy-hell-yes-let’s-get-to-this swirled inside my mind.
“And you can. You can choose to not have him train you, if you wish. But I’ve been doing this for a long time, Haley. It would behoove you to trust me.”
His words covered me like a warm blanket. Like someone had finally understood what I needed and knew how to provide it. It was comforting and provided confidence to move forward.
Trust and open communication were two of the biggest necessities in this lifestyle. He was being honest, and I couldn’t think of a reason not to trust his decision. After all, he’d know more about a man being a good Dom than I would.
As difficult as it was, I looked directly into his eyes. “Okay. I’ll meet him.”
His black eyes shined like polished onyx and he smiled approvingly. “Good girl.”
My shoulders shuddered. I couldn’t stop the response before it fell from me.
I would have been embarrassed but I wasn’t given time, because just as I opened my mouth to speak, a shadow fell over our table, and a man with the sexiest, most confident voice I’d ever heard said, “Master Dylan, I believe you wanted to introduce me to this lovely woman.”
The shudder returned, and I was able to fight it back marginally.
I didn’t take my eyes off Master Dylan’s victorious expression as his smile grew cocky. “Get lost on the way here?”
A rough growl came from the man at the edge of the table. “It’s b
een a while, forgot the way.”
Master Dylan winked at him before turning to me. I hadn’t yet had the guts to see the man he’d apparently hand-picked for me.
“Haley—”
He was cut off by the man at my side. “My name’s Jensen. You can call me Sir.”
Forcing myself to continue breathing, I turned toward the man whose voice sounded a mixture of sensual anger and irritation along with a heavy dose of lust. I shifted in the booth and dragged my eyes up his holy-incredible-defined body. Dark blue jeans, perfectly fitted at the thighs and thick at the crotch, a heavy leather black belt around a trim waist and then the dips and curves of a black shirt that covered his abdomen and the curves of his chest. I caught sight of well-shaved stubble, pink lips that had two perfect points on the top, and a slightly crooked Romanian nose.
His brows pulled so tightly together and his stiff shoulders gave hints at his irritation, but it was his eyes that drew me in. Swirling pools of the deepest blue, darker than the blue sapphire ring I’d always worn on my right ring finger, threatened to undo me.
They spoke a story I wanted to instantly unravel.
My chest tightened. My God, he was sexy. So completely out of my league. I glanced at Dylan and he nodded at me. Suggesting I talk to this man? I couldn’t form words to do so.
I looked back at Jensen. His scowl deepened as he asked, “Are you going to say hello?”
One brow arched. Across the table from me, Master Dylan coughed.
It broke whatever spell I’d been pulled into and I looked away from Jensen, recognizing my mistake.
“Sorry, sir,” I instantly said. Amazing how inherent that one word had become. “My apologies, I’m Haley.”
I slid my palm against his and his fingers wrapped around my hand, gripping me firmly. Sparks of a freshly stoked fire poured through my body at the smallest contact. I flinched in his grasp, shocked at my reaction, but he tightened his hold.
